Magisterial District Courts

Magisterial courts are the first point of contact for most residents. They handle small civil claims (small claims up to $12,000), traffic violations, preliminary hearings in criminal cases, and some non-criminal offenses (summary offenses). Several magisterial districts operate in Venango County, each with its own judge.

If you are unsure which court your case is filed in, use the case search on the UJS portal — it covers all state courts, including magisterial ones.

Certified and Regular Copies

A certified copy has the court seal and clerk's signature — it is needed for legal procedures, submission to other courts, or government agencies. A regular (non-certified) copy is suitable for personal review. The cost of certification is higher, so clarify in advance which type of copy you need.

To check a state-level criminal history, use the PATCH (Pennsylvania Access To Criminal History) system, administered by the Pennsylvania State Police. This check does not replace a court request but provides a general overview.

Access Restrictions

Not all records are public. Juvenile cases, some family cases, and sealed or expunged records are not available for general viewing. If you are denied access, you have the right to submit a request through the PA Office of Open Records under the Right-to-Know Law.
